This is deemed a construction project of large dimensions, particularly because it is implemented within a historic site like that of the BudaCharity Hospital which provides exceptional opportunities to the archeologists, as well. It is well known that the vicinity of the Buda abutment of the Margaret Bridge has been densely populated for thousands of years. However, the area is compactly built-in and only rare opportunities offer themselves for implementing discoveries and excavations. Most probably, the archeologists could hit similar findings by digging trenches at any place in the adjacent streets, however, excavations extending to large dimensions can be initiated only where a huge work pit is needed for some other reason.
In such cases, the archeologists bring to the surface everything deemed to have importance or value, they take photographs and scan the ruins. When no further item of cultural history value to be saved is found, the construction work can be resumed. By and large, this is an achievement and we are happy to have assisted in exposing many valuable items and identifying knowledge which could not have been brought to sight if the hospital's courtyard had been left in its original state.
